How to dab: What should you know about smoking shatter and wax

Dabbing is the flash vaporization of concentrated dabs, also known as dab in high temperatures and it’s done using the use of dab rigs, e-rigs, or dab pens. The focus will be on dabbing that is traditional using a dab rig in this guide.

There’s a process of learning with dabbing so if you’ve never done it before, it can be helpful to get someone with experience to guide you through the process.

Important things to keep in mind while dabbing:

  • Dabs are concentrated versions of cannabis. So just a tiny amount goes a great distance. A flower can contain between 15-25% THC. Dabs can range between 60 and 90% THC.
  • It’s important to be aware of temperature when dabbing: If the nail is too hot, it’s likely to scorch terpenes and cause an episode of coughing.
  • Beware of the hot nail. It’ll be much warmer than your hot pot or lighter.

Which dab device is it?

A dab rig is a water pipe for inhaling dab smoke. It resembles an old bong with an enclosed chamber that houses water for cooling vapor, but rather than a bowl to hold flower-like in bongs, a dab pipe has a nail to help with concentration.

What is the dab rig’s function?

For a dab to be taken, the nail of the dab rig will be heated with the torch and then allowed for it to cool to the desired temperature. A cannabis concentrate is then placed inside the nail and the heat vaporizes it. The carb cap is placed on top of the dab rig starter kit, and the dabber takes in the air to control the airflow by using that cap.

Vapor flows from the nail to a rig’s main chamber, and then is cooled with water prior to reaching the dabber’s lungs.

How do you make dabs?

Before you begin dabbing It is important to remember that solvent concentrates like shatter wax, crumble honey, jelly, and many others, are made using chemical solvents such as butane. So, these concentrates require a certified technician equipped with proper equipment. They are not able to be made at home.

Solvents have to be removed from extractions to ensure that it is safe to consume, and only a technician licensed in a legal market will know how to do this. Incorrect solvent extraction practices can be dangerous and lead to the release of dangerous fumes, or even explosives.

However, some solvent-free dabs can be made at home using cannabis flowers and simple household tools.
